DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Danville Community College (DCC) is adding a cyber and network security specialization to its Associate of Applied Science degree.
“Being validated by the NSA speaks volumes about the quality and rigor of our cyber security programs,” said Steven Carrigan, IT Professor and Director of the Cyber Center at DCC. “Producing a highly-skilled cyber security workforce is a national priority and this certification confirms that DCC is a leader in this initiative.”
The National Security Agency (NSA) validated the degree for DCC. An NSA panel reviewed the curriculum, learning outcomes, and program rigor. They determined whether students who graduate with the degree would be adequately prepared to enter the workforce.
“Our students leave our cyber security program ready to enter the workforce,” said Carrigan. “They are well-versed in all areas of cyber security and have been thoroughly vetted to ensure their competency.”
This degree will be reviewed and re-validated every five years to make sure the curriculum and outcomes are on par with the nation and industry standards.
“We are so proud of this achievement,” said Dr. Muriel Mickles, interim president of DCC. “DCC’s ability to consistently meet and surpass industry requirements and produce top graduates in their field is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculty.”
